Rhinebeck High School Art Students ended a difficult school year in June 2021 with a spectacular outdoor art exhibit entitled “Upcycle with Artful Intention.”

The installation featured 70 different Mandalas made from plastic caps, bags, packages, bottles, cups, etc. collected from teachers’ and students’ homes and at school. Using the philosophy of the Mandala — to create with intention and connection to our larger universe — the artwork reminds us that we use and dispose of too much plastic, which has led to a world wide pollution problem. Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle!

ENTA Artists Mimi Graminski and Martha Tobias worked with RHS Art teacher, Cynthia Baer, and her seventy (70) RHS Students in Studio Art classes in an outdoor tent space throughout the month of May, designing and executing their individual Mandalas. All 70 Mandalas were staked onto the Rhinebeck High School entryway lawn in the shape of a massive Mandala. Visitors to the exhibit were able to walk among the Mandalas and view each one.
